This week is actually the start of our annual holiday break when Hepting and I go do the holiday thang and whatnot and put a hold on comics. Comics will return on January 13th. BUT I do have one more thing to share: My Image Tour of PS3's Home Open Beta Is Out! I meant to have completed this a week ago, but it took a while to shrink all the pictures. It's not way way funny, but you might get a kick out of it. It's my send off to you before I fly to Hawaii and enjoy my holiday trip. Again, here's this week's "update". Hey guys. I wrote this week's comic, so you can pretty much blame it all on me. Okay, it's essentially a REMAKE of Star Trek, but it's a parallel timeline, so it exists in the same universe as the original Star Trek, or something. Yeah. It strikes me as an attempt for the writers to have their cake and eat it too, by starting over with the series, yet not invalidating 40 years of Star Trek storylines. With all the time-travel/alternate timeline/parallel reality/pre-destination paradoxes that have gone on in Star Trek, it's a wonder that the space-time continuum hasn't simply swallowed itself whole. Ah well. I'll still check the movie out.

The next comic will be late, as in, you won't see it immediately Tuesday morning or afternoon. Or you might. Depends on how we set the comic up. It's going to be on PS3's Home Open Beta. I've decided to try and take some pictures of my Home happenings and if I can get enough funny pictures, I could feasibly make it a picture comic. I've got one priceless one and a couple others that could make it. The problem I seem to have is that there's a delay between me pressing the snap button on the camera and it actually taking the picture. Which is a load of bullshit. But what do you do. At any rate, expect the comic to be late again. This will be our last comic for a while as we head into our Holiday Break. We take it every year from the middle of December until January 13th. Peace.

Our update schedule is kind of lax. More often than not, it'll be either late on Tuesday or early Wednesday. Sometimes even early Monday. The comic's lateness is my fault, once again. Had a hard time piecing the script together and didn't get it to him until around late Saturday. You should buy some Webcomic Holiday Postcards this year. Why? Two reasons. 1. Most importantly, all profits go directly to Penny Arcade's Child's Play. By buying these postcards, you'll help put a smile on a kid's face. I think supporting Children's Hospitals and their patients is very important, very noble and very awesome. I was going to get into a whole bunch of reasons why, but you already know. 2. Shawn tells me on Twitter than he's not selling too many of them right now after having bought so many upfront (this is why you take pre-orders, man). I don't want to see him taking a huge loss over these cards. He's a rad dude. So buy those postcards. Do it Comic'll be up soon.

Star Wars Force Unleashed Jedi Temple DLC review.

Alright. As I said before, I was going to buy the Star Wars Force Unleashed DLC Jedi Temple level and review it here on the front page. So here we go. 45 minutes. That's all you're getting out of the Jedi Temple level. And this is with me taking my sweet ass time. I'm a little disappointed with the shortness of the level. Lucasarts, this is a five dollar dlc. For ten dollars, I expect at least two hours of gameplay. Keep that in mind for future levels. BUT. It is a fun level. Especially the first third of the level -- the first part being heavy combat with some really cool enemies (won't say which), second part being a really ugh and gag tedious puzzle and the third part being an okay boss battle which I think could have been handled a lot better. Summation: If you love the game, you will like the DLC, but might feel a little ripped off. Otherwise, it's not worth it.

So there's new DLC for Force Unleashed.

There's a new Jedi Temple level on xbox live DLC for Star Wars Force Unleashed, the only game I have 1000/1000 gamer points on. So naturally, I'm going to have to buy it. I can't find any reviews of the DLC online, but you'll be getting one here on Slackerz. I'll let you know if it's worth 10 bucks or not.

I gave the script to Hepting a little later than usual. He e-mailed me, said he'd probably get it done tonight. In the meantime, check out dead winter. It's a zombie apocalypse web comic story and it's really good. Really really good. It's good in that I usually don't ever read story comics. I know that zombie apocalypse fever is in the air because of hot new Left 4 Dead vidjeo game that just came out. So this is my recommendation. You should start here, from the beginning. It'll take you about an hour to read through. About a year ago, I met the creator at an irc chatroom and told the room that I didn't think much of dead winter at a first glance. Just want to take the opportunity to apologize for that because after getting into it... It turns out that I was dead wrong about dead winter. Ba-dum psh! Seriously, check it out though.

Contact Information: theslackerzATgmailDOTcom First real attempt at a storyline. Some of you will like it, some of you won't/don't already. Gotta go through with it, though, so just bear with us. It's only four strips. One problem I'm currently facing is that I didn't set aside enough strips for this storyline. These story strips are huge and they're still not all I want to write. There are more jokes/gags I want to put in and can't because they're already so large. As many of you have noticed, yeah, it's a Last Starfighter parody. I'll do the best I can to make everything up to and the 100th strip having some resemblance of something enjoyable somewhat. Then we'll get right back to the vidjeo game/pop culture references. If you own LittleBig Planet, come check out my level, "Invasion of Pink Floaty Castlegrad." It keeps jumping around from page 4 to page 20 on 'Cool Levels', but an easier way to find my level is to just friend me (psn name SS_Slacker), then go to 'My Moon', then 'Friends', then click on my profile then find my level. About 20 people have played it so far, according to LittleBig Planet. The most common tag on it seems to be "Frustrating". I guess that's true, seeing as how you have three different levers and grab switches to deal with on the tank, not to mention it can be a pain to get in the dang thing. But check it out if you can. Heart it if you like it. I'm going to make a much bigger, better level (better written and better gameplay, basically Slackerz style) later on, so it's cool if you don't like my test level. I'm not ragging on Facebook too bad (as you can see, we have a Facebook group link up at the upper right corner of the front page), but you know Facebook or MySpace is going to be involved with a teen horror film at some point. It's about the US government bailing out greedy fucking bastards that couldn't give a shit about people who really could have used the money. Hope you like our first and probably only political comic. I'd write more about the background, but it would just make me mad. Just search for "bail out" on google. Edit: I will say this for those not in the know or our younger readers: the tax cut for that Oregon Senator and Smith's PSP are what's called "Pork Barrel Spending." At its best, pork barrel spending helps out local communities but is dishonest. At its worst, pork barrel is corrupt and self-serving. Read more about it from that link. I think it's bullshit. A bill about say proper usage of farm land should not also be about awesome baseball bat savings. Peace out.

Okay! Now I can talk about the comic and a few other things. Nintendo had another press conference earlier this month. Probably to reverse the damage done to their stocks via the economic crisis. This Kotaku article outlines the whole event. They showcased the upcoming "Play On Wii" titles, Gamecube titles with Wii Motion Control. Pass. Super Pass no...Wii Pass. They had a few first/third party titles to show: Sin and Punishment 2, which looks cool as a rental, Wii Punch Out, which looks awesome but again as a rental, and Conduit, which is a first real attempt from a third party publisher to make a good FPSer. The genre is getting a little tired though, so I have "cautious optimism" with this one. Potential rentals, but nothing spectacular. The main focus of the event was obviously the DSi, an attempt to merge the DS in with the iPhone/iTouch/iReferToMyselfAsI crowd. This should have been done with the DS Lite. There are no new DS titles of interest coming out and the market is saturated with DS Lites. Why the hell would anyone besides a hardcore Nintendo fan spend 60 more dollars for a DS with features that are okay but you can get something better for less or several dollars more? Not interested at all. And neither were stock holders. Here's an idea, Nintendo: Mario and Zelda iterations are great, but why not come up with something new? Even with the Gamecube, you had Animal Crossing and Pikmin, two new IPs. What about the Wii? Those are my thoughts. I hate hating on Nintendo. They've had me as a customer since 5 years old. Maybe you've noticed. I decided to change the layout of the website, make it look a little more crisp. We also have a better comic/comment management system now. Remember all those strips with the obscure references that had youtube videos and news articles attached to it? The referential material went away after a week, right? Well now I can attach comments and youtube videos under our comics so when new people look back, they'll know what the fuck is up. I'm going to update every strip with that stuff in December during the holidays. There's still a few things funky with the website. The new RSS Feed needs to be tuned just a little. The upper-right logo will be replaced (it was actually supposed to be temporary in the previous web design). The strips are on the other page. I know that's not a popular decision. Hepting doesn't like it and I in some principle don't like it either. But the way our earlier strips were, they're so tall that if you put them in the same spot as the newer, shorter comics, it wonks out the website. Makes everything look a little ugly. The image borders from the previous design didn't appear. It was just really messy. I wanted to clean that up. If we had stuck to a single format the whole time, putting the strip on the front page would've been feasible. Just trying to make everything look neat. I'm still contemplating on whether or not to keep the Shoutbox. It's very helpful during update days and I like when people leave feedback. What I don't like is this bullshit: FuckFace: HEY. FuckFace: HEY GUYS. FuckFace: BAAAAAHHBAAAAAHHBBAAAAAAH I LIKE ATTENTION. FuckFace: (30 lines of inane babble) I frown upon that shit. I'm probably going to crack down and ban those particular people who ruin it for the rest. Let's see what else... There's another aspect of this site on here that I can't mention directly on the front page that people are concerned/upset about. I'm going to address this by quoting myself from a few months ago: "If Miley Cyrus paid a million dollars to show her new video on Slackerz, there would be Cyrus videos all over the place." You guys get your strips. We hardly sell any merchandise. Let us have our thing, alright? Hepting says the strip will probably be up by Wednesday. I'm on top of the scripts now. Got two more ready to send to Hepting. Shouldn't be late anymore. Peace out.
